The decision moved to the machines, and most firms never noticed
A buyer asks an engine, and often acts on what the engine says before clicking anything. Google answers directly inside results, and ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot name a shortlist of businesses inside a written reply. If your business is not on that shortlist, you were not beaten on price or reviews. You were never considered.
What decides that shortlist is machine readiness: whether the systems can find you, read what you are, verify that you are trustworthy, and act on you. A business can rank well and still be absent from the answer a buyer reads, because being ranked and being readable are separate jobs, and each one needs its own work. We run one coordinated method, Search Surface Optimization, across classic search, AI answers, reputation and the technical foundation, and we measure the result as the Machine-Readiness Score, a single figure from 0 to 100 with its four dimensions, visibility, legibility, credibility and actionability, always shown beneath it.
Both are aimed by the Visibility Corpus, our per-domain map of where a market’s attention actually sits across the full net of digital surfaces its buyers are exposed to, and how that mix is shifting.
